An Australian restaurant has launched a decadent hot chicken roll loaded with herb stuffing and shoestring fries, complete with a gourmet gravy that takes three days to make.
Customers at Levi cafe, a warehouse-style restaurant in southeast Melbourne, have been flocking there to try it after a picture of the dish was posted online.
The $19 sandwich, which is laced with Kewpie mayonnaise and flakes of crispy chicken skin, is being lusted after across the country and hailed as a chef’s version of a simple Australian classic
Infused with tiny pieces of chive, the gravy is marinated over 72 hours and designed to be be poured over the roll or used as a dip.
Melbourne food bloggers Breakfast Snobs said they ‘could have easily eaten 10 of these bad boys’.
Good Food Australia critic Dani Valent said the roll was so good, it’s been popping into her head in the middle of the night.
Others joked the sandwich was calling their name across Australia.
An eggplant toastie drizzled with chilli vinaigrette, poached Turkish eggs with herb yoghurt and a breakfast pavlovafilled with warm white chocolate mousse are among the other standout dishes on the menu.
Opened earlier this year, Levi cafe is housed inside an old jeans factory in Murrumbeena in Melbourne’s southeast.
Contemporary decor with clean lines and a monochrome colour scheme make the eatery bright and airy, with space for 170 customers.
There’s also a play area complete with beanbags, a chalkboard and a mini-rock climbing wall to keep children entertained while adults eat.
